GREENWOOD - It was a record-setting night for Lander as the Bearcats swept Georgia College & State University 3-0. The Bearcats broke the program record for consecutive sets won and now sits at 22. They also extended their record home winning streak and tied the school record with their 10th straight win.
Lander raced out to an 8-3 lead in the first set. The Bobcats then went on a 5-1 run to make the score 9-8. With the score 12-9, the Bearcats would use kills by Katie Miller and Olivia Dow and an ace by Lauren Dow to make it a six-point lead and cause Georgia College & State to call a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Lander outscored the Bobcats 4-2 to increase their lead to 19-11. A kill by Miller would give Lander the 25-16 win and give the Bearcats their record-breaking 20th set won in a row.
Lander again raced to the early lead in the second set, forcing a Bobcat timeout at 5-0. Georgia College chipped away and used an 8-3 run to erase a 13-10 deficit and take an 18-16 lead. Coming out of a timeout, Lander got a kill by Sophia Schneider to make it a one-point deficit for the Bearcats. After a Bobcat attack error, Christina Aguayo got a service ace to give Lander the lead again at 19-18. With the score tied at 22, the Bearcats scored the final three points with two kills by Olivia Dow and an ace by Miller to take the set 25-22.
The third set would be a back-and-forth battle, with neither team able to pull away. Trailing 11-10, the Bearcats used an attack error by the Bobcats to tie the set up. A kill by Olivia Dow and two by Miller gave Lander a 15-11 lead and made the Bobcats call a timeout. The Bearcats scored three more points to force Georgia College to call their final timeout at 18-11. The Bearcats would close out the set with a 15-5 run to take the 25-16 win and complete the sweep.
Olivia Dow led the Bearcats with 19 kills, while Miller added 18. Lauren Dow dished out a game-high 34 assists, and Patricia Pantoja had 19 digs.
