GREENWOOD - In a heavyweight battle of two top teams in the Southeast Region, Lander took down Anderson 3-0 to tie the school record for consecutive sets won with their 19th straight win.
The Trojans took an early 4-1 lead in the first set. After the Bearcats tied the score at four, the teams would trade points to make it 5-5. An Anderson attack error would give Lander their first lead of the set. A kill by Olivia Dow and another attack error made it 8-5. Lander would outscore the Trojans 10-5 to take an 18-10 lead and force Anderson to take their second timeout. Another kill by Dow coming out of the timeout gave Lander a nine-point lead. The Trojans would chip away and get the deficit to four at 23-19. A kill by Katie Miller would give the Bearcats set point, and Miller would finish it with another kill to take the set 25-21.
The battle continued into the second set, with Lander jumping to a 7-1 lead. Anderson responded with six straight points to tie the score and force Lander to call timeout. The teams would trade points, with neither team leading by more than two points. Trailing 15-14, kills by Christina Aguayo and Olivia Dow would give Lander the lead. After a Trojan timeout, The Bearcats got a block from Blondie Penaflor and Dow and back-to-back attack errors by Anderson to make it 19-15. The Trojans would work their way back into the set and cut the Lander lead to one at 21-20. Leading 25-22, Lander would get two kills from Annie Holesinger to take the set 25-23 and go up 2-0.
Lander looked to have all the momentum going into the third set and raced out to a 5-0 lead. The Bearcats continued to hold the lead throughout the set. With the Trojans trailing 14-8, they would outscore the Bearcats 6-1 to make it a 15-14 set, causing Lander to call a timeout. After Anderson tied the set at 16, the teams traded points until the Trojans took a 21-19 lead. A service error by Anderson made it a one-point game, and a block from Holsinger and Katie Miller would tie the game at 21. Back-to-back service aces from Lauren Dow gave Lander a two-point lead. An attack error by Anderson gave Lander match point. Oliva Dow ended the game with her 13th kill.
Dow led the Bearcat attack with her 13 kills, while Christina Aguayo and Katie Miller added nine and eight, respectively. Dow, Holesinger, and Penaflor each had four blocks for Lander. Lauren Dow dished out a game-high 32 assists and had 11 digs for a double-double. Patricia Pantoja had 17 digs, and Aguayo added 12.
