GREENWOOD - Lander continued to dominate the Lorraine Redderson Invitational presented by Discover Greenwood Friday, picking up two wins.
The Bulldogs would score the first point of the match, but a kill by Katie Miller tied the score and sparked a 10-1 by the Bearcats to take a commanding 10-2 lead. Barton slowly battled back to make it the score 13-6. Lander answered with six straight points to open their lead to 13 and went on to take the first set 25-13.
The two teams battled back and forth in the second set, with neither team leading by more than two points early on. Trailing 6-5, the Bearcats got two kills from Lauren Dow and Katie Miller to take a 9-6 lead they would not relinquish. The Bulldog would cut the lead to one at 21-20, but Lander outscored Barton 4-1 to take the set.
The third set mirrored the second set early, as the teams couldn't pull away. Leading 8-7, Blondie Penaflor took a pass from Dow for a kill that ignited an 8-0 run by the Bearcats to blow the set wide open. An ace by Patricia Pantoja would end the set and give Lander the sweep of the Bulldogs.
Katie Miller picked up her sixth double-double of the season with 18 kills and 15 digs to lead Lander. Patricia Pantoja also recorded a double-double with 25 digs and 10 assists, while Lauren Dow had a game-high 32 assists and 14 digs for her sixth-straight double-double.
The Bearcats would pick up their second sweep of the day in the nightcap, dropping Elizabeth City State 3-0.
Katie Miller led the Bearcats with 11 kills and 11 digs, while Lauren Dow had 31 assists. Patricia Pantoja led all players with 23 digs and four aces. Christina Aguayo and Blondie Penaflor finished with eight and six kills, respectively.
