YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Lander baseball team will enter the PBC Tournament as the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 USC Aiken for its first game.
The PBC will play a new tournament format for 2023.
The opening weekend of the event will be played at two sites and hosted by #1-seed Georgia Southwestern and #2-seed Young Harris. The 4,5 and 8 seeds will play at GSW with the 2,3 and 7 seeds at YHC.
Each site will be a four-team double-elimination bracket with two games on Friday, three on Saturday and one or two on Sunday.
The remaining teams from each site will then meet for a best-of-three championship series May 12-13. This format mirrors the NCAA regional format.
Young Harris also has their highest-ever PBC Tournament seed. The Mountain Lions are the defending tournament champions and have won two of the last three PBC Tournament, both times as the #4 seed. YHC will host #3 USC Aiken, #6 Lander and #7 North Georgia.
Lander recently went 2-1 against the Pacers at Aiken, S.C., to conclude the regular season. The Bearcats outscored Aiken 19-12 in the first two games of the series before falling 4-3. Lander had won its last seven games before the loss and was 11-4 over the last 15 games.
