GREENWOOD - The Lander baseball team took down No. 11/17 Young Harris for the second straight day to claim the series over the No. 1 team in the PBC with a 10-5 victory on Senior Day.
Lander moves to 21-24 overall and 14-12 in the PBC while Young Harris drops to 33-13 overall and 21-8 in the PBC.
Lander has collected 10 or more runs in the past two games against Young Harris while holding the Mountain Lions to five runs in the past two games.
Oliver Zohn led the way with three hits, three runs, four RBI and one walk. Zohn added a solo home run to right field as part of his three-hit day.
Connor Droze, Chris Manriquez, Ethan Wilder and Tyler Prell all had two hits as well while Droze added two RBI on the day.
Young Harris was once again first to strike as a home run to left field gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the first.
Lander would counter with three runs in the bottom of the first. Zohn began the inning with a double down the left field line before Will McClellan singled through the left side to advance Zohn to third. A wild pitch moved McClellan and Zohn a base to bring home the tying run.
A ground out from Wilder later in the inning scored McClellan while a double from Prell scored Droze to put Lander in front 3-1.
It wouldn't be until the fourth inning that the next run would be scored.
Zohn would blast a double to right field with the bases loaded to score all three base runners and advance the Bearcats' lead to 6-1.
Young Harris would get back on the scoreboard in the sixth to make the score 6-2.
Lander would respond with a double from Droze that scored McCleallan and Zohn to give the Bearcats an 8-2 lead.
The Mountain Lions would get their offense rolling in the seventh with three runs coming home to make it a three-run game.
Once again, Lander countered the Mountain Lions as a run would come home to score in the bottom of the seventh.
Zohn would cap the scoring off in the bottom of the eighth with a solo shot to right field to give Lander a 10-5 advantage.
Luke Johnson got the start and the win against the Mountain Lions on Saturday. Johnson went six innings where he allowed four runs, two earned, on four hits while walking and striking out three to pick up his third win of the season.
Bennett Sloper and Tyler Overholt finished the remaining three innings. Overholt recorded two scoreless innings of relief while striking out three in the process.
The Bearcats and Mountain Lions conclude the series on Sunday, April 23 with a 1 pm start
