ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Lander baseball team split a doubleheader with the Flagler Saints on Saturday in a pair of low-scoring games.
Lander moves to 18-23 overall and 12-11 in the PBC while Flagler moves to 12-27 overall and 8-15 in the PBC.
Lander (1) - Flagler (0)
The Bearcats would grind out a late win against the Saints in the first game of the doubleheader.
Oliver Zohn led Lander with two hits while five other Bearcats recorded one. Bennet Nooe drove in the only run of the game on a fielder's choice while also picking up a single earlier in the game.
In a game that saw 10 combined hits, Lander would have to wait until the top of the ninth to score.
Lucas Martino's only hit of the game would be driven to right-center field as he hit his second triple of the season. Martino would be pinch run by Caleb Singleton who would eventually score on a fielder's choice from Nooe.
Nick Foray went eight innings against the Saints and earned the win. Foray allowed no runs on one hit while walking three and striking out four.
Bennett Sloper pitched the ninth inning where he allowed no runs and picked up the save.
Lander (1) - Flagler (2)
It was yet another low-scoring affair between the Bearcats and Saints in the second game of the doubleheader.
Six Bearcats were tied for the lead in hits with one each. Chris Manriquez had the only RBI of the game for Lander after coming in to pinch hit.
Both squads would combine for 10 hits once again.
Flagler struck first in the second game of the doubleheader as the Saints scored twice in the bottom of the second.
Lander would get its first run of the game in the top of the ninth on a fielding error by the Flagler shortstop that allowed Manriquez to reach safely and Martino to score from third.
The Bearcats got the bases loaded later in the inning, but a double play would end the game.
Luke Johnson got the start and was awarded the loss. Johnson went eight innings where he allowed two runs, one earned, while walking two and striking out four.
Lander and Flagler conclude the series with a single game set for Sunday, April 16 at 12 pm.
