Spartanburg, S.C. - No.5 seeded Lander couldn't build off of first half momentum, and dropped down the stretch to No.4 seeded Converse on Tuesday evening. The final score was 254.010-267.660.
The Bearcats started off the night with a 33.40 in the Compulsory event. The second heat garnered the highest score in this event with a 9.70. Acrobatics & tumbling had a strong showing in the Acro event, earning nines and above in each heat. Lander scored even higher in the Pyramid event, scoring a 29.20, with only a 0.80 deduction. The Bearcats went into the half behind two-points to the Valkyries.
The Toss event started was highlighted by the open heat score of a 9.15 from the Bearcats. During the Tumbling event, Lander scored a 9.525 in the Aerial pass heat, totaling 50.100. The Blue and Gold earned a 87.56 in the Team event, to end the night with a 254.010 in their first ever quarterfinals appearance in the Conference Carolinas Championship.Â
Lander University's Finis Horne Arena will be the home of this year's Conference Carolinas Acrobatics & Tumbling Championship and Event Finals. The action will take place on April 15-16 with teams still to be determined for Sunday's event finals. The two semifinals will consist of #1 Limestone vs #4 Converse at 12pm, and #2 Belmont Abbey vs #3 Coker at 3:00 pm, both on Saturday. The champioship meet will take place on Sunday at 5:00 pm.
