AMERICUS, Ga. – The Lander baseball team finished its series with Georgia Southwestern with a 5-1 victory Sunday afternoon.
Lander advances to 6-12 overall and 3-6 in the PBC while Georgia Southwestern drops to 9-5 overall and 6-3 in the PBC.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
Connor Droze brought home the first run of the game with an RBI single to right field to score Jackson Hoshour while Chandler Moeller singled to left field to score Landon Dupert later in the inning.
Lander would score three more runs in the third inning to increase its lead to 5-0.
Ethan Wilder would send a double to left center to score Dupert and Will McClellan while Moeller sailed a sac fly to center field to score Droze the next at-bat.
Georgia Southwestern got its first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth after a Hurricane was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
After that, neither team would be able to score for the rest of the game.
Cooper King got the start and went 4.1 innings against the Hurricanes. King allowed one run on three hits while striking out one as well. Bennett Nance collected his first win of the season after pitching the remaining 4.2 innings. Nance allowed just one hit while striking out four Hurricanes.
Lander returns to Dolny Stadium for a non-conference matchup with Belmont Abbey on Tuesday, March 7 for a 5 pm start.
