GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Lander baseball team would be unable to avenge its earlier loss to No. 1 North Greenville as the Bearcats fell 16-5 to the Crusaders at Fluor Field Tuesday night.
Lander drops to 13-18 overall while North Greenville moves to 30-2 overall.
Will McClellan led the Bearcats with three hits. McClellan had one RBI while Bennet Nooe lead the Blue and Gold with two RBI on the night.
The Crusaders were first to strike, with five runs coming around in the top of the first.
Lander would respond with three runs coming home in the bottom of the second. After Matthew Burgess singled to left-center field, Nooe would blast a pitch over the Green Monster in left field to make it a 5-2 contest. Will McClellan would connect on a pitch and single through the left side to score Gary Garrett from third after he had singles and stole two bases.
North Greenville threw a run on the board in the top of the third as a fielder's choice allowed a runner to score from third.
The Crusaders would score again in the fourth, as a home run escaped over the left field fence to give North Greenville a 7-3 lead.
After the Crusaders scored a run in the top of the fifth, Lander would score two runs in the bottom of the inning.
After hitting a single to right field, Dalton Stroud and Nooe would both score on a pair of errors committed by North Greenville.
The Crusaders would score a run on an RBI single in the sixth and four runs in the seventh that featured a two-run home run to left-center field to advance the lead to 13-5.
North Greenville would tack on three more runs in the eighth.
Tyler Hall got the start and was awarded the loss. Hall threw 0.2 innings where he allowed five runs, all earned, on no hits while walking five and striking out one.
Matthew Ellis, Bennett Nance, Evan Demurias, Michael Nastro and Bennett Sloper all saw relief appearances as well. Nance finished his 2.1 innings of work with five strikeouts.
Lander returns to PBC action as it travels to Augusta starting on March 31.
