GREENWOOD - The Lander baseball team sent the Claflin Panthers packing after winning 23-6 on Saturday to conclude the series.
Lander moves to 13-17 overall and 9-6 in the PBC while Claflin drops to 0-25 overall and 0-15 in the PBC.
Caleb Singleton and Will McClellan led the Bearcats with three hits each while McClellan finished the game with five RBI. Dalton Stroud was second in RBI with four while three other Bearcats finished with multiple RBI on the day.
The Bearcats unloaded 11 runs on just three hits in the bottom of the first after allowing a run in the top of the inning.
The first runs of the game would come on a double to right-center from Will McClellan to score Caleb Singleton and Oliver Zohn. Matthew Burgess would draw a walk with the bases loaded to bring home McClellan while a single from Dalton Stroud and a sac fly from Ross McCurley would give Lander a 5-1 lead. Zohn would send a sac fly to center field to score Burgess while Stroud would steal third and score on a throwing error from the Claflin catcher to move the score to a 7-1 later in the inning. McClellan would scorch another RBI double as Singleton and Garrett scored to push the Lander lead to 9-1. Burgess was hit by a pitch later in the inning to bring home McClellan while Stroud walked to bring home Connor Droze to give Lander an 11-1 lead after the first inning.
Claflin would on an RBI single in the top of the second while a Singleton RBI single and a double from McClellan brought home a pair of runs to push Lander in front 13-2. Tyler Prell would send a single through the left side to score the 14th run of the game.
Neither side would score in the third while the fourth would see more runs come across for both teams.
An RBI single would give Claflin its third run of the game while Lander would see an RBI single from Bennet Nooe score Kyle Murphy and a sac fly from Stroud brought home Droze to make it a 16-3 game.
Claflin would plate another run in the top of the fifth to make it 16-4 before Lander scored three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Chris Manriquez would reach on a fielding error from the Panther shortstop to score Lucas Martino while a single up the middle from Caleb McKittric scored Singleton to give the Blue and Gold an 18-4 lead. A walk from Stroud allowed Murphy to score for the 19th run of the game for Lander.
The Panther would plate two runs to make it a 19-6 contest before Martino smashed a double down the right-field line in the bottom of the inning to score Dawson Campbell for the 20th run of the game. Martino would come around to score after Murphy singled to left field to make it 21-6. McKittrick and McCurley would be plunked by pitches to bring home a pair of runs to advance the Bearcat lead 23-6.
Luke Johnson got the start and recorded his second win of the season. Johnson threw four of the seven innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts. Chandler Moeller, Zach Pellegrino and Michael Nastro all saw relief appearances as well. Nastro threw a scoreless seventh inning where her struck out three while allowing just a lone hit.
The Bearcats head to Fluor Field, home of the Greenville Drive, to battle No. 1 North Greenville next on Tuesday, March 28 for a 5 pm
