GREENWOOD - Head softball coach Glen Crawford will step down at the end of the season after being named the new Athletic Director at Columbia College Monday afternoon.
"This was a difficult decision for my family and me, as we have loved our time in Greenwood, but this is a great opportunity for me, and I am looking forward to it,' said Crawford. "I'd like to thank Brian Reese and everyone at Lander for supporting and helping me and the softball program over the past eight years."
Crawford will depart Lander as the second-winningest coach in program history. In 2016, he inherited a team that had won 12 games in the previous season and doubled the win total, going 25-21 in his first season. Crawford currently has a record of 183-143-1 at Lander, and last season he guided the Bearcats to a 35-15 record and a third-place finish in the Peach Belt. The 35 win was the most for Lander since 1999. Lander advanced to the conference tournament's semifinals and just missed out on making the NCAA tournament. He has coached 15 All-Conference selections and one PBC Freshman of the Year selection.
"We wish Glen and his family well as he begins a new chapter in his career," Lander Athletic Director Brian Reese said. "In his eight seasons as coach, he completely turned around the softball program and brought in student-athletes that succeeded in the classroom and on the field."
