Bearcats' offense is red hot in sweep of North Greenville

GREENWOOD - The Lander offense exploded for 16 runs in two games to sweep a non-conference doubleheader from North Greenville Wednesday afternoon.

GAME ONE

In the bottom of the first, Rylee Omahen drew a leadoff walk and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Saje Jones. Abbie Behe followed with a double to left field to score Omahen and give Lander the 1-0 lead. A pitch hit Logan Coward, and Barbara Cook drew a walk to load the bases. Emily Allen singled to right-center field to score Behe and Coward to make it 3-0. The Bearcats would add two more runs on a North Greenville error to take a 5-0 lead after one inning.

In the second inning, Omahen led off with a single, and Saje doubled down the left-field line to put runners at second and third with no one out. A pitch hit Behe to load the bases. With two outs, Allen doubled to left-center to score two, and Shannon Antonini singled up the middle to score one and make it an 8-0 game. The Bearcats would cruise to the 8-0 win in five innings.

Allen led the Lander offense, going 2-2 with a double, four RBIs, and one run scored. Behe finished 1-2 with a double, RBI, and two runs scored, while Antonini was 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Taylor Scott (4-3) picked up the win allowing just six hits and striking out one in five innings of work.

GAME TWO

The Crusaders took advantage of two Lander errors to score four runs in the top of the first and take the early lead. The lead did not last long as the Bearcats answered with eight runs in the bottom of the inning. Rylee Omahen reached on an error to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a single by Saje Jones. Abbie Behe followed with a double down the right field line to score Omahen to give Lander their first run. Barbara Cook drew a walk to load the bases, and Emily Allen followed with a walk to score Jones and make it a 4-2 game. Shannon Antonini then singled to left field to score two runs and tie the game at four. A single by Naya Jones scored Allen and gave Lander the lead. A two Run single by Omahen made it a 7-4 game, and Behe's second RBI double of the inning rounded out the scoring for the Bearcats.

After the two teams scored a combined 12 runs in the first, neither team could score until North Greenville put up three runs in the sixth to make it a one-run game. Barbara Cook (1) came into the circle and pitched a scoreless seventh inning to secure the win for Lander.

Behe was 2-3 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run score dot lead the Bearcat offense. Naya Jone finished 2-3 with a run scored and RBI, while Omahen scored two runs and drove in two. Bailey Pattison (5-1) picked up the win, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and striking out one in six innings of work.
