Cook's walk off home run in game two helps Lander to series sweep of Augusta

GREENWOOD - Lander scored seven unanswered runs to eliminate a 6-0 deficit and defeat Augusta 7-6 to complete the three-game sweep after winning game one of the doubleheader 3-2. 

GAME ONE

After a scoreless first inning, the Bearcats took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single by Gracie Derrick. A two-run home run by Logan Coward in the third would extend the Bearcat lead to three. Lander continued to lead by three until the top of the fifth when the Jaguars got a two-run home run by Hayden Pearson to make it a 3-2 game, but the Bearcats would hold on to take the win and clinch the series. 

Abbie Behe was 2-3 with a double, while Coward was 1-3 with a home run and two runs driven in to lead Lander. Bailey Pattison (4-1) picked up the win allowing just two runs on six hits and striking out one in seven innings of work. 

GAME TWO

The Jaguars would score three runs in the first and three more in the second inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead. The Bearcats would be held scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Logan Coward blasted a solo home run off the scoreboard in centerfield to make it 6-1. Barbara Cook then singled up the middle, and Emily Allen and Shannon Antonini each walked to load the bases. A single through the left side of the infield by Gracie Derrick scored Cook and made it 6-2. In the bottom of the fifth, Saje Jones led off with a single and then scored on the double by Abbie Behe to make it a three-run game. Behe scored when Coward reached on an infield single, but the throw to first got away. Antonini doubled to left-center to score Coward and make it a one-run game. 

Naya Jones led off the bottom of the sixth with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Rylee Omahen. Saje Jones reached on an Augusta error to put runners on second and third. An infield single by Behe scored Naya Jones and tied the game at six. Cook would lead off the bottom of the seventh and blast a walk-off home run over the left field fence to complete the comeback and give Lander the sweep. 

Coward and Cook each went 3-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and RBI to lead the Bearcat offense. Behe finished 2-4 with a double and two RBIs. Taylor Scott (4-3) came into the game with one out in the first inning, allowed just one run on five hits, and struck out five in six and one-thirds innings of work to pick up her second win weekend.
