GREENWOOD – The Bearcats allowed seven runs in the fourth inning as Lander fell 11-3 to No. 5 Columbus State in a game that needed two days to be played due to rain.
After three scoreless innings, the Cougars would break the game wide open with seven runs coming to score in the top of the fourth.
Lander would score its first runs of the game in the sixth inning.
After Jackson Hoshour singled and Landon Dupert walked, Connor Droze zipped a single down the right-field line to score Hoshour. Will McClellan sent a single to left field to score Dupert the next at-bat to make it a 7-2 contest.
Lander would plate another run in the seventh. Matthew Burgess started the inning with a double down the left field line before eventually scoring on a wild pitch later in the inning to make it a 7-3 contest.
Columbus State would plate four more runs in the ninth inning.
Nick Foray got the start and picked up the loss against Columbus State. He went six innings where he allowed seven runs, four earned, on eight hits while striking out nine and walking one. Foray tied his career high for strikeouts in a game.
Matthew Ellis, Zach Pellegrino and Braeden Burton all saw relief appearances as well.
