GREENWOOD – The Lander Bearcats hunkered down behind nine shutout innings from Cooper King and Tyler Bowen to defeat the USC Beaufort Sand Sharks 1-0 to take the series 2-1.
Lander moves to 3-7 overall and 2-1 in the PBC while USC Beaufort drops to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in the PBC.
Gary Garrett led the Bearcats with two hits while Will McCellan brought home the only run of the game.
After a scoreless first and second inning, the Bearcats would strike first in the bottom of the third inning. Lander would get singles from Matthew Burgess, Gary Garrett and a bunt single from Jackson Hoshour to load the bases. Will McClellan would bring home Burgess from third on a sac fly to left field to give Lander a 1-0 lead.
Neither side would be able to score the rest of the game.
King picked up his first win of the season as a Bearcat. He threw eight innings allowing just three hits, no runs while striking out three. Bowen threw the final inning where he allowed no hits or runs to pick up the first save of the season for Lander.
The Bearcats stay home as they host No. 12 Wingate on Tuesday at Dolny Stadium.
