HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Battling in their second game of the season, the Lander men's lacrosse team fell to the Coker Cobras 12-11 on the road Saturday afternoon.
Lander drops to 1-1 overall while Coker moves to 2-0 overall.
The Bearcats would find themselves down 4-2 after the first period with goals coming from Carter Wilcox and Adam Mather putting Lander on the scoreboard.
Lander would respond with six goals in the second half as the Bearcats took an 8-5 lead into the half.
After Coker scored the first goal of the second period, Britton Weems got the scoring started for Lander with 11:56 left in the period before Mather and a pair of goals from Krew Conroy got the Bearcats in front 6-5. Mather would score another goal at the 3:55 mark while Conroy scored the sixth goal of the quarter to finish out the scoring.
The Cobras would come out hot in the third quarter, scoring six goals of their own while Holding the Bearcats to two. Kyle DeCrispino and Wilcox would help the Bearcats scoring cause as the Bearcats would be down 11-10 entering the fourth period.
Both teams would score a goal in the final frame, but the Bearcats couldn't surpass the Cobras.
Rhys Peterson played the entire game for Lander and made nine saves.
The Bearcats play their first home game of the season this coming Wednesday, as they welcome the Emmanuel Lions to Van Taylor Stadium on February 15.
