Wilson, N.C. - In their first game in eight days, Lander fell on the road to Barton 78-74 Thursday afternoon.
In the first half, the Bulldogs would build a 21-14 lead seven minutes into the game. Noah Dunn would drain a three-point basket and a layup to make it a two-point deficit. Nigel Colvin then gave the Bearcats their first lead of the game. A jumper by Barton at the 6:57 mark would break a 27-27 tie. With Lander trailing 32-29, Phillip Burwell gave Lander the lead again with a three-point basket, but Barton again regained the lead. With less than 20 seconds left, Dunn would score to cut the deficit to 40-39 heading into the half.
The Bearcats would trail 45-43; Tommy Moore hit a three-point basket that ignited a 13-0 run by the Bearcats, giving them a 56-45 lead. Lander would continue to hold the lead until Trevon Spencer hit a three with 9:23 remaining to tie the score at 65. The teams would trade leads, with neither leading by more than two points. With 3:57 remaining, Dunn hit a jumper to give Lander a 73-71 lead. A free throw by Burwell 45 seconds later would make it a 74-72 game. That would be the last points Lander would score as Barton ended the game on a 6-0 run to take the win.
Inady Legiste led the Bearcats, scoring 19 points and pulling down seven rebounds, while Burwell added 14 points with six assists. Dunn and Colvin had 12 and 10 points respectively.
