#1 Lander Dominates Mount Olive, 43-3

GREENWOOD - The top-ranked Lander Wrestling team used four straight wins to open the match to open up a lead over the Mount Olive Trojans and never looked back as the Bearcats dominated to their third straight win to open the season by a score of 43-3.

Lander improves to 3-0 on the season and in Conference Carolinas action while Mount Olive dropped their first match of the season at 2-1 overall and in conference play.

James Joplin (Greensboro, N.C.) set the tone for the match as he would take down and cut Lens Mathurin six different times and then used one final takedown to secure a 21-6 tech fall to give Lander a 5-0 lead.

Kaden Kuenzi (Silverton, Ore.) followed that by making short work of Logan Tortual with a pin in 1:07.

Isham Peace (Okatie, S.C.) had to wait until the second period to end his match but he would dominate all the same with a 19-3 tech fall in 3:33 to make it 16-0, Bearcats.

Junior Downing (Redmond, Ore.) found himself in a tight bout but used a reversal in the second period and a late takedown to secure a 6-2 decision to increase the Lander lead to 19-0.

Mount Olive got on the scoreboard at 157 with a 4-2 decision to make it 19-3 however David Hunsberger (Duncan, S.C.) made sure that momentum was short lived when he used a trio of four-point near falls in the first period to record a 15-0 tech fall in 1:51 to make it 24-3, Bearcats.

At 174, Brandon Matthews (Venetia, PA) had an early seven-point play right off the whistle and used a second period takedown to stave off a comeback by Mount Olive's Calan Staub to secure a 13-8 decision to add three more points to Lander's total and secure the match for the Bearcats at 27-3.

Jack Bond (O'Fallon, Ill.) added a 16-0 tech fall at 184 to make it 32-3, Bearcats.

At 197, Anthony Yacovetti (Bridgeport, Pa.) earned a pin in 3:36 then Juan Edmond-Holmes (Goose Creek, S.C.) added a 20-2 tech fall to cap the night off and give Lander the 40-point win.
