Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Three Different Goal Scorers Lead to Bearcats’ Fifth PBC Title Game Appearance in Seven Years

MORROW, Ga. - The Lander Men's Soccer team picked up right where they left off over two weeks ago as they used two first half goals and added a third insurance goal late in the second half to defeat the North Georgia Nighthawks for the second time in as many games on Friday night at Laker Field in the Peach Belt Conference Semifinals. The win puts the Blue and Gold in their second consecutive PBC Title Game on Sunday. It is Lander's fifth appearance in the Championship game since 2017.

The Bearcats improved to 9-4-4 while the Nighthawks end their season at 8-7-2.

The Lander offense was in control for pretty much the whole game as they outshot North Georgia 21-5, including a 10-1 mark in the first half.

Jonah Miller (Charleston, S.C.) broke the ice in the game in the 28th minute with his third goal of the season to put the Bearcats up 1-0. Then right before halftime, a well-earned corner for Lander would result in a goal as the Charlie Bushby (Vigo, Spain) inswinger found the head of Jed Smith (Essex, England) and then the head of Julien Sagnol (Saint Etienne, France) to double the Bearcats' lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, North Georgia would try to get some momentum going but only challenged Juan Rodriguez (Nebo, N.C.) once and the first-team All-Peach Belt honoree was there to answer the call in the 68th minute.

In the 90th minute, a free kick was saved but the Peach Belt leading scorer, Christian Hatley (Nottingham, England), was there to bury the rebound to give Lander the game-sealing goal and send them through to Sunday afternoon.

The Lander Men's Soccer team will now look to win their second consecutive PBC Tournament title and seventh overall on Sunday as they face the top-seeded Clayton State Lakers. The two teams split the series in the regular season with each side defending home turf. Lander got the most recent win when they upset then sixth-ranked Clayton State in a wild 4-3 game on October 14th.
