GREENWOOD – In a battle of two of the top three teams in the Peach Belt, Lander held North Georgia to just one shot on goal as the Bearcats defeated the Nighthawks 3-1 to wrap up the regular season Wednesday night.
North Georgia would take a 1-0 lead when Santiago Cano scored on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. The Nighthawks looked to take that lead into the break, but Carson Graves found Christian Hatley, who scored with 23 seconds remaining in the half to tie the game at one.
Hatley would find the back of the net in the 60th minute on an assist from Jonah Miller to put the Bearcats up 2-1. Graves would score his first goal of the season in the 74th minute to give Lander some insurance. The Bearcats would continue to control the game and hold on for the victory.
