ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Trailing 21-14 in the first set, Lander outscored Flagler 11-2 to take the 25-23 win and went on to a sweep of the Saints. It was the Bearcats' first win in St. Augustine since 2018.
Trailing Flagler 10-9 in the first set, the Saints outscored Lander 7-3 to take a commanding 17-13 lead. They would increase their lead to 20-14, forcing the Bearcats to call a timeout. The Saints added another point coming out of the timeout to put them four points from winning the set. Lander would get two kills from Annie Holesinger and one from Olivia Dow to cut the deficit to four. A Lander attach error would put Flagler three points from taking the first set, but a block by Holesinger and Dow and an ace from Katie Miller made it 22-19. Trailing 23-19, A kill from Dow would ignite a 6-0 run, and a kill by Christina Aguayo would end the set with Lander taking the 25-23 win.
With the score tied at eight in the second set, the teams would trade points. Trailing Flagler 13-12, Katie Miller would take a pass from Lauren Dow for the kill to tie the score. Back-to-back aces from Sophia Schneider would give Lander a 15-13 lead. The Saints would battle back and take a 20-19 lead, but Lander would finish the set on a 6-2 run to take the second set 25-22.
The third set was another back-and-forth battle between the two teams, as neither could pull away. Flagler would take a 26-25 lead, but a Saint service error would tie the score again. A kill by Blondie Penaflor and a Flagler attack error would give Lander the 28-26 win.
Katie Miller recorded her fourth-straight double-double to lead the Lander attack. She finished with a game-high 11 kills and had 13 digs. Lauren Dow dished out 36 assists to lead all players, while Patricia Pantoja had 21 digs. Blondie Penaflor finished with four blocks, and Sophia Schneider had four aces.
