No. 2 Wrestling runs over Lincoln Memorial at home

GREENWOOD – Returning home after trouncing Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey in a tri-match on Saturday, the No. 2 Lander wrestling team chopped down Lincoln Memorial 46-9 at Horne Arena Tuesday evening.

Lander moves to 17-2 overall and 7-0 in the SACC while LMU drops to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in the SACC.

The Bearcats started the match up 18-0 as the Railsplitters forfeited at 157, 184 and 197.

LMU would rebound with a major decision at 125 to get on the scoreboard while Kaiden Fisher would answer with a first-period pin at 133. Fisher was up 12-0 in the first period before recording the win.

The Railsplitters got points at 141 with a pin of their own to make it a 24-10 contest.

Lander would see wins the rest of the way starting with Jack Tangen running circles around his opponent at 149.Winning by tech fall 24-9, Tangen recorded six takedowns in the third period as his opponent only recorded points from escapes.

Randy Myers took a win at 157 from forfeit before Gage Bernall recorded a pin 49 seconds into the first period at 165. Myers' opponent would cost LMU a point for unsportsmanlike conduct and would drop the Railsplitters to nine points.

Jack Bond would record the second tech fall of the night for Lander as he ran over his opponent with three four-point near falls in the first period to win 16-0.

Nathan Buckovich and Anthony Yacovetti would both claim wins by forfeit before Grayson Latham finished the night with a pin in the third period to conclude the match.

Lander stays home as it welcomes Coker to Horne Arena on Thursday, January 26 for a 7 pm start.
