Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer begins conference play with a 7-1 drubbing of No. 19 North Georgia

GREENWOOD – Coming off a rough stretch in the Sunshine State, the Lander men's soccer team ran through No. 19 North Georgia 7-1 to begin conference action on a rainy Wednesday evening.

Lander moves to 2-1-2 overall and 1-0-0 in the PBC while North Georgia drops to 3-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the PBC.

Lander put 9-of-15 shots on goal while North Georgia put 3-of-6 shots on goal.

The Bearcats have scored in all five games this season, with every game seeing at least two goals from Lander.

Lander began the scoring parade in the ninth minute of action. After receiving a pass, Marco Gueli raced down the pitch to put away the first of three goals against the Nighthawks.

North Georgia would tally its lone goal of the game in the 20th minute of action to briefly tie the game 1-1.

Carson Dinger would join the score sheet with a world-class header in the box off a brilliant cross from Charlie Curtis to put Lander up 2-1 in the 21st minute. The goals wouldn't stop anytime soon, as Gueli fired home his second goal of the game, going to the far side with a sharp blast to bring Lander up 3-1.

After a lengthy weather delay, the Bearcats would continue to dominate the Nighthawks as it was Gueli scoring once again. In the 44th minute, Gueli would receive a pinpoint perfect cross from Joe Linley to beat the Nighthawk keeper and make it a 4-1 Bearcat conquest.

At the half Lander would take a 4-1 edge, scoring four times on six shots.

The second half would see Lander take nine more shots against a flustered North Georgia squad.

The goals would resume for Lander in the 58th minute of play, as Max McNulty would join the scoring party with a rocket of a shot that found the bottom left of the Nighthawk goal to push Lander ahead 5-1.

Carlos Madrid would tack his first goal of the season in the 66th minute of play after receiving a well placed pass from Dinger to keep the scoring going and put Lander ahead 6-1.

The final goal of the game came off a corner kick, with Alistair Danjon scoring a goal off a corner kick from Madrid that was headed by Rob Dymond to give Lander its 7-1 final score.

Simon Reithmeir moves to 2-1-1 on the season with the win while making two saves in goal for the Bearcats.

Lander returns to Van Taylor Stadium for another home contest, this time rounding out the non-conference schedule with a visit from the University of Tampa on Saturday.
