NEWBERRY, S.C. - Lander swept Newberry 3-0 Tuesday night for their seventh-straight non-conference win.
In the first set, Lander jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but Newberry battled back to make it a one-point deficit at 12-11. The Bearcats got a kill from McCayla Willingham, an attack error by the Wolves, and a service ace by Madilyn Reed to make it 15-11. Newberry later used a 4-0 run to take a 22-19 lead over Lander. However, the Bearcats outscored the Wolves 6-1 to take the first set.
Lander jumped out to a commanding 18-7 lead in the second set, eventually leading 23-14. Newberry would score eight-straight points to cut the lander lead to one. The Bearcats called a timeout, and after a Newberry attack error, Madilyn Reed ended the set with a kill.
The Bearcats came out in the third set, firing on all cylinders to take the third set 25-15 and picked up the victory.
Katie Miller recorded her second-straight double-double with a game-high 13 kills and 11 digs. Patricia Pantoja finished with 13 digs, while Madilyn Reed handed out 27 assists.
