COLUMBUS, Ga. - Fourth-seeded Lander defeated fifth-seed Queens 4-2 Monday afternoon in the NCAA Men's Tennis Southeast Regional opening round.
The Bearcats clinched the doubles point with wins by Markus Sorensen and Nick Beamish, and Matthew De Groot and Bailey Horne. Hugo Regner picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win over Win Steveker at number three singles. Alexandre Crepy and De Groot also cruised to straight-set victories in number five and six singles to clinch the match for the Bearcats.
The win over the Royals avenges a loss to Queens last season in the first-ever meeting between the two programs, and it advances the Bearcats to the second round to take on host Columbus State tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
