Men's lacrosse rolls over Young Harris - Comes away with a 20-9 road victory

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – After starting conference play with a win at home last week, the Lander men's lacrosse team followed that up with a 20-9 road victory over Young Harris on Saturday.

Lander moves to 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the PBC while Young Harris drops to 0-11 and 0-2 in the PBC.

Carter Wilcox led the Bearcats in scoring with four goals. Adam Mather was second with three while Noah Longest, Krew Conroy and Carter Clark all had two goals each. Wilcox also led the Bearcats in points with six after assisting on two goals. Jake Watson collected eight ground balls while going 15-of-20 in faceoffs. Alex Ellis led the Blue and Gold in caused turnovers with two.

Lander outpaced the Mountain Lions the entire game, as the Bearcats were never outscored in any period by Young Harris.

Although conceding the first goal to Young Harris, Lander scored five consecutive goals to go up 5-1. Mather scored a pair of goals along with goals from Longest, Wilcox and Clark.

The Mountain Lions would end the first period with a goal before Lander started the second period with three straight goals, as Ellis, Drew Wilson and Longest helped the Bearcat's scoring efforts.

Lander would take a 9-5 edge over Young Harris at halftime.

The third period would see seven goals come from the Blue and Gold while only two goals were scored by Young Harris. Lander came out of the half with four unanswered goals from Wilcox, Tyler Kralj, Mather and Owen Ciali before Young Harris scored back-to-back goals. Conroy, Chance Hainey and Wilcox all scored to close out the third.

The fourth period would see Wilcox, Nolan Oakey, Clark and Rob Gadomski all score as the Bearcats came away with a double-figure victory.

Liam Mackay played the first half and earned the victory. He made three saves while allowing five goals. Nicholas Paige played over 23 minutes making two saves while Rhys Peterson played over six minutes making a save as well.

Lander returns home to battle the Flagler Saints on April 16 for a PBC contest at Van Taylor Stadium.
