Men's lacrosse scores seven goals in the fourth quarter - Defeats Flagler 17-10

GREENWOOD –  The Lander men's lacrosse team used a seven-goal fourth quarter to defeat the Flagler Saints 17-10 to clinch its third straight conference victory of the season.

Lander moves to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the PBC while Flagler moves to 2-11 overall and 2-1 in the PBC.

Adam Mather and Nolan Oakey were tied for the team lead in goals with three each. Oakey led the Bearcats in points with six after assisting on three goals as well. Oakey also put all seven of his shots on goal against the Saints. Caedmon Ferrell led the Bearcats with six ground balls while Quinn Ingalls has a team-high two caused turnovers.

The first quarter would see the Saints up 3-2. After Lander scored the first goal of the game from Alex Ellis, the Saints would score three consecutive goals before a goal from Krew Conroy with 59 seconds remaining made it a 3-2 contest.

Lander would outscore the Saints 6-2 in the second frame as Mather scored with 9:30 left in the second to tie the contest at 3-3. A Saint's goal would push Flagler back in front before a goal from Chance Hainey and a pair from Ingalls gave the Bearcats a 6-4 edge with 3:29 left in the half. Flagler would get within one goal of the Bearcats before goals from Mather and Carter Wilcox closed out the half with Lander in front 8-5.

The third quarter would see each team score just twice. The Bearcats and Saints would trade goals beginning with a man-up goal from Mather with 14:06 left in the third. After a Saint's goal, Oakey would net a goal with 4:46 left. Lander would take a 10-7 advantage over Flagler into the final frame of action.

The fourth would see seven goals from the Bearcats, as Noah Longest, Tyler Kralj, Oakey, Wilcox, Krew Conroy and Ethan Kevelder helped keep Lander in front of the Saints and finish ahead 17-10.

Liam Mackay played all 60 minutes for the Bearcats against the Saints. Mackay made 16 saves while just allowing 10 goals on the day. He moves to 10-3 on the season.

The Bearcats stay home as they host Belmont Abbey next on Wednesday, April 20 for non-conference action.
