HUNTSVILLE, ALA. – With the regular-season title on the line, the Lander men's lacrosse, unfortunately, fell 11-9 to the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers on the road on Saturday.
Lander falls to 11-5 overall and 4-1 in the PBC while UAH moves to 9-6 overall and 5-0 in the PBC.
With the loss, the Bearcats are locked into the No. 2 seed in the upcoming PBC Tournament.
Lander was led by Drew Wilson in scoring with three. Carter Wilcox and Adam Mather both had two goals each. Quinn Ingalls, who had a goal and two assists, and Wilcox were tied for the lead in points with three each. Liam Mackay led the way with five ground balls while Sterling Blake and Ingalls each had two caused turnovers. Jake Watson and Blake Moore each won five face-offs.
Lander started the fame game with goals from Wilcox and Wilson to take an early 2-0 lead before the Bearcats and Chargers traded goals for the remainder of the half. The Bearcats would take a narrow 4-3 lead heading into halftime.
Lander started the third with a pair of goals from Wilcox and Mather to go up 5-3. Both teams would score three goals in the third quarter with the score 7-6 in favor of the Bearcats.
Unfortunately for Lander, the Chargers would go on to score five goals in the final frame of action while the Blue and Gold would only see two goals from Wilson and Ingalls to fall 11-9 to conclude the regular season.
Liam Mackay made 14 saves in 57 minutes of action and picked up the loss. Mackay moves to 11-4 on the season.
With the No. 2 seed, the Bearcats have clinched a spot into the semifinals of the PBC Tournament. The Semifinals and Finals will be hosted on the campus of Alabama-Huntsville. Times and opponents will be provided at a later date.
