Bearcats set to host Pacers Saturday afternoon

GREENWOOD, S.C. -   The 7th ranked Lander women's basketball team hosts the Pacers of USC Aiken tomorrow at 1:30 PM in a Peach Belt match-up.

STORYLINES

  • Lander ran by Young Harris 87-42 Wednesday afternoon.  
  • The Bearcats held the Mountain Lions to just six points in the second and third quarters.
  • The Bearcats had at least four players score in double figures for the third-straight game.
  • Amiaya Melvins led all scorers with a Lander career-high 22 points and pulled down ten rebounds. Miriam Recarte and Vashae Rideout added 12 points, while Aniaya Jester scored 10 points, and Makaila Cangé had 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for her 10th double-double.      
  • Lander leads the Peach Belt and is second in NCAA Division II in assists per game (18.9). They are also first in the conference and fourth in the country in scoring offense (83.1), first in the PBC, and fourth in scoring margin (21.5). The Bearcats lead the PBC in assist-turnover ratio (1.15), field-goal percentage (46.4), offensive rebounds per game (15.9), rebounds per game (43.06), and blocked shots per game (4.2). They are also second in assists (321) and rebound margin (8.1).
  • Cange currently leads the PBC and is second in the country in field-goal percentage (68.3), first in the conference, and fourth in Division II in offensive rebounds per game (4.9). She is also second in the conference in points per game (20.5). Cangé leads the conference in double-doubles (10), free throws made (91), and rebounds per game (10.7).    
  • Miriam Recarte is first in the conference and is 5th nationally in blocked shots per game (2.82), leads the PBC, and 8th in the country in blocked shots (48).
  • Zamiya Passmore leads the PBC and ranks fourth in Division II (21.8).
  • The Bearcats have won six out of their last seven games against the Pacers.
  • Last time out, USC Aiken lost 79-70 to Columbus State on Wednesday.
