Baseball takes the first game of the series with Lincoln Memorial - Wins 12-3

GREENWOOD - The Lander baseball team scored five runs in the second and eighth innings to rush past Lincoln Memorial 12-3 in the first game of the series at Dolny Stadium on Friday.

Lander advances to 5-6 overall while Lincoln Memorial drops to 7-5.

Bradley Davis led the Bearcats with three hits against the Railsplitters. He also had an RBI. Walker McDowell, Landon Dupert, Vincent DeRubeis and Matthew Burgess all had multi-hit games as well with DeRubeis hitting home runs for each of his two hits. DeRubis scored four RBI with his two blasts out of Dolny Stadium.

Lander was first to score, as two runs came across in the bottom of the first. After a single from Dupert through the right side, DeRubeis hit his first home run of the game over the left-field fence to make it 2-0 Lander.

Five runs would come across in the bottom of the second for Lander. After LMU scored on a double down the left-field line in the top of the inning, Ethan Wilder countered with a home run to right field to put the Bearcats up 3-1. McDowell would score two more on a double out to right field to push the Bearcat's advantage to 6-1 before a single from Davis would score Ian Jenkins from second to put Lander up 7-1.

Neither side would produce much until Lincoln Memorial scored two runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 7-3 contest.

The bats would go cold for both sides yet again before Lander would wake up and score five runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Burgess made it an 8-1 game with a triple down the right-field line to score Gary Garrett. McDowell slapped a double down the right field line to score Burgess while Dupert would hit a single out to left field and bring home McDowell to put Lander up 10-3. DeRubeis would top things off with a two-run home run to left field to put Lander safely ahead of Lincoln Memorial.

Bennett Sloper picked up his second win of the season after going five innings in the start. He allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out seven on the night. Zach Pellegrino and Braeden Burton finished out the game in relief.

Lander and Lincoln Memorial finish the series with a doubleheader set to begin at 1 pm on Saturday, February 26.
