GREENWOOD – The Lander baseball team bounced back Tuesday night with an 8-6 win over previously undefeated Anderson at Dolny Stadium.
Mason Streater hit his fourth home run in as many games along with three RBI. Bradley Davis added three hits to the Bearcats' 12 on the night along with driving in two runs of his own. Walker McDowell, Ian Jenkins and Matthew Burgess all had multi-hit games as well.
After a slow offensive start, Lander has scored eight or more runs in five of its last six games.
After a scoreless top of the first, the Bearcats got the game's first run on a single from Jenkins to score Vincent DeRubeis to give Lander a 1-0 edge. Lander would tack another run on in the second after Burgess sent a pitch back up the middle to score Bennet Nooe from second to make it 2-0 Lander.
The third would see the Bearcats extend their lead by four. After Anderson scored two runs in the top of the inning, Davis plated a run on a single to left to score Landon Dupert while Streater took a pitch out of the yard for his fourth home run of the season to score three and put Lander up 6-2.
The fourth would see each team scoreless before Anderson would score a run in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-3.
The Trojans plated a run in the top of the sixth to make it 6-4 but the Bearcats would score a run of their own to push the lead back to three after a DeRubeis sac fly to center field scored Burgess.
Anderson would come back with another run in the seventh while Lander countered with a single from Davis to that scored Seth Richardson to make it 8-5. Anderson scored a run in the ninth to make it 8-6 but wouldn't get any closer to the Bearcats.
Nick Foray got the start and went 2.2 innings. Anson Merrick came in and pitched the next 2.1 innings. Merrick was awarded the win, moving him to 1-1 on the season. He allowed two unearned runs on two hits while also striking out three. Michael Nastro and Braeden Burton also saw relief appearances. Kurt Rogers pitched the final two innings to earn his first save of the season.
The Bearcats stay home as they host Lincoln Memorial for a three-game series starting February 25.
