Newberry, S.C. - Women's tennis comes away with a 4-2 win against Belmont Abbey, and drops the contest to host school Newberry 0-4.
The first match was against Newberry on Saturday morning, as the Wolves handed Lander their second loss this season. Newberry started off with the double point after victories in No. 1 and No. 3 Doubles against the Bearcats.
Emily Ineson and
Mille Elsborg fell 7-6 and
Chiara Gerbino and
Roberta Armani loss their set 2-6. The next three points came during the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 Singles. Gerbino and
Raquel Acco both finished with two 2-6 sets, and Maranda Adair went 1-6, 4-6.Â
The last match against Belmont Abbey started with two doubles victories to earn one point. Ineson and Elsborg didn't drop a set in No. 1 Doubles going 6-0, while
Hannah Panchal and Adair were successful in No. 2 Doubles scoring 7-5. After dropping the first set 2-6 in No. 1 Singles, Gerbino came back to win 6-2, 6-1. Adair and Armani both had losing efforts in No. 2 and No. 3 singles scoring 1-6, 2-6 and 5-7, 4-6 respectively. Ineson earned another point for the Bearcats going 6-0, 6-2 during No. 4 Singles. Panchal increased the score to give Lander the 4-2 victory in No. 6 Singles with 6-3, 7-5 sets.
