ANDERSON, S.C. – The Lander men's lacrosse team used a five-goal fourth quarter to defeat Anderson 17-15 on the road Saturday afternoon.
Lander moves to 2-0 overall while Anderson drops to 0-2 overall.
Carter Wilcox led the Bearcats with four goals while
Drew Wilson and Wilcox led the Blue and Gold in points with five.
Nolan Oakey collected a team-high four ground balls while
Liam Mackay and
Sterling Blake both caused two turnovers.
The Trojans began the game with four consecutive goals before
Tyler Kralj fired home the first of the game for Lander with 7:40 left in the first quarter. Lander would score two more goals to get within one of Anderson after Oakey and another goal from Kralj made it 4-3 with 3:52. The Trojans scored once more in the first before Kralj answered with his third goal of the period to make it a 5-4 game.
Lander fired home four goals in the second period while Anderson put away three to see the two sides tied 8-8.
Lander would trail 13-12 heading into the fourth quarter, but that wouldn't be the case for long. Wilcox would fire home three of his four goals on the game in the fourth quarter. Lander would score five unanswered goals in the final frame, with the first two coming from Wilcox to tie and put Lander in front. Wilson and
Adam Mather scored the other two goals for Lander as the Bearcats came away with the win.
Mackay earned his second win of the season after playing all 60 minutes. Mackay made 13 saves against the Trojans.
The Bearcats stay on the road for their next contest, as they travel to Emmanuel on February 16.
