STORYLINES

  • The Bearcats will have another chance at claiming the SACC regular-season title as they travel to Belmont Abbey on Saturday.
  • Lander is in its third year as a program and second in the SACC.
  • Lander battled Newberry last season for the SACC regular-season title but fell to the Wolves 22-21 at Newberry last season.
  • After starting the match down 9-3, Lander would score 18 unanswered points to move ahead 21-9. Newberry would then use the next three matches to chisel away at the Bearcat lead to take the 22-21 win.
  • The Bearcats recently defeated Limestone and Newberry in a tri-meet on February 3. Lander started with a 31-10 victory over Limestone before defeating Newberry for the first time in program history with a 19-14 victory.
  • Elijah Lusk, Zeth Brower, Bryson Ethington, Gage Bernall, Jack Bond and Darius Parker all went 2-0 in the tri-meet.
  • The Bearcats are 9-2 overall this season, with the only losses coming to then no. 4 West Liberty and no. 2 St. Cloud State at the Carolina Clash.
  • Lander has battled Belmont Abbey close the previous two meetings. Lander lost the inaugural meeting 25-21 while falling to the Crusaders 20-18 last season at Horne Arena.
  • Much like Lander, Belmont Abbey is undefeated in SACC action this season.
  • The Crusaders are 9-4 overall and 6-0 in conference action.
  • Belmont Abbey is coming off a tri-meet at UNC Pembroke that saw the Crusaders defeat the Braves 18-17 while also rolling over Coker 34-12 last Saturday.
  • Lander will take part in the Newberry open on Sunday, February 13 while closing out the regular season with a trip to UNC Pembroke on February 15.
