No. 7 Lander wrestling takes down Emmanuel 29-9 on the road Thursday Evening

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The No. 7 Lander wrestling team picked up its fifth consecutive victory and third straight South Atlantic Conference Carolinas victory with a 29-9 win at Emmanuel College Thursday evening.

Lander moves to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the SACC while Emmanuel College drops to 2-1 overall and in the SACC.

The Lions would win by decision at 125 and 133 to take an early 6-0 lead before Zeth Brower would snag one of back-to-back tech falls to shift the momentum back to Lander. Brower was able to defeat his opponent 18-3 with a four-point near fall in the first period along with two takedowns and a reversal in the third period at 141. Brower moves to 9-0 overall this season and 5-0 in duals while recording his second tech fall of the season.

Jack Tangen used a tech fall of his own to put Lander in front 10-6 at the 149 weight class.  Tangen got out in front of his opponent 6-0 in the first period with a takedown and a four-point near fall.  Tangen picked up another four-point near fall in the second period and a two-point near fall in the third. Tangen moves to 7-1 overall this season and 4-0 in duals while recording his second tech fall of the season.

Emmanuel earned another victory by decision at 157 to make it a 10-9 match before David Hunsberger responded with a win by decision at 165 to increase Lander's lead to 13-9.  Hunsberger won 12-7 and is now 8-1 overall and 4-1 in duals this season.

Jack Bond picked up bonus points with a 10-2 major decision at 174 to advance the Bearcats' lead to 17-9. Bond had takedowns in all three periods along with a two-point near fall in the first period. Bond moves to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in duals.

Logan Hall continued the point parade for Lander with a 6-1 win by decision at 184. Hall recorded a takedown in the first and third periods while getting an escape in the second period and an extra point for riding time. Hall moves to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in duals this season with his sixth win by decision on the season.

Anthony Yacovetti earned Lander three more points with a 6-2 win by decision at 197.  Yacovetti picked up two points in the first period with a takedown before getting a pair of escapes and another takedown in the third.  Yacovetti is now 4-0 overall and 4-0 in duals.

The night was concluded with Juan Edmond-Holmes taking down his opponent with a first-period pin. Edmond-Holmes moves to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in duals with his fifth pin of the season.

The Bearcats look forward to an action-packed weekend as it hosts the Carolina Clash. The Bearcats are set to go up against No.6 West Liberty,  Glenville State, Kentucky Wesleyan and Simon Fraser at Horne Arena on Saturday, December 3.
