GREENWOOD - The No. 7 Lander wrestling team ran wild at Horne Arena as it took down Allen University 51-0 and Emory & Henry College 52-6 Thursday evening in a tri-meet.
Lander moves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the SACC. Allen moves to 2-2 overall after beating Emory & Henry to begin the tri-meet. Emory & Henry drops 1-7 overall and 0-1 in the SACC.
Against Allen, Lander did not concede a single point with wins coming at all 10 weight classes. Nine of the 10 matches brought home bonus points for the Bearcats.
Lander began the match with a pin from Kaiden Fisher at the 2:30 mark of the match to take an early 6-0 lead. Lander would then see back-to-back tech falls from Elijah Lusk and Zeth Brower to grow the lead over the Yellow Jackets to 16-0.
Bryson Ethington would earn the second pin of the match with it being recorded at the 2:45 mark. David Hunsberger uses a first-period tech fall to keep the points coming in for the Bearcats. Gage Bernall would win via a forfeit at 174 before Logan Hall would battle his way to a 4-0 win by decision.
Anthony Yacovetti won via a pin just 20 seconds into his match at 197 before Grayson Latham took a 9-1 win by major decision to close out the match.
Nathan Buckovich would battle his way to a second period pin in an exhibition match at 197.
Lander would waste no time getting points on Emory & Henry, with six of the first seven matches being won by pin. Joey Felix took the first pin against the Wasps, as he pinned his opponent at the 1:24 mark in the first period. Lusk earned his second tech fall of the night as he won 18-0 at 133 with a takedown and three four-point near falls and a pair of two-point near falls. Brower was next in line to win by pin as he took down his opponent just 45 seconds into the first period. Caleb Cox kept the first-period pin party going with a pin at 149 at the 1:47 mark.
Randy Myers was explosive at 157, pinning his opponent at the 2:38 mark of the first period before Hunsberger followed up his tech fall against Allen with a pin 57 seconds into the first period. Bernall would record a win by pin at 174 in the second period. Before pinning his opponent, Bernall had recorded two four-point near falls and a two-point near fall in the first period.
Hall would win by forfeit at 184 before Yacovetti cruised to another win with an 18-0 tech fall in the first period.
The Waps would win by pin at 285 for their only points of the match.
Lander welcomes nationally ranked Southeastern University of the NAIA to Horne Arena on November 18 for its next test.
