YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The Lander men's soccer team battled tough with regional foe Young Harris to the tune of a 2-1 road victory Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats advance to 7-2-4 overall and 6-0-2 in the PBC while Young Harris drops to 5-4-3 overall and 4-3-2 in the PBC.
Lander records its first win against Young Harris since March 20, 2021, when the Bearcats defeated the Mountain Lions 2-1 at Young Harris.
The Bearcats were first to score with a
Jed Smith header off a free kick by
Charlie Curtis in the 38th minute of play. When scoring first, Lander is now 7-0-2 so far this season.Â
Young Harris was unable to put any shots on goal in the first half while Lander attempted seven in total and one shot on goal.
After taking a 1-0 edge into the half, Lander would score once again in the 76th with
Marco Gueli scoring his team-leading seventh goal to give Lander a 2-0 advantage.Â
The Mountain Lions wouldn't quit, as the host side would put away a goal in the 87th minute to put a scare into the Bearcats.
Lander would hold strong, as it held on to the one-goal lead for its seventh victory of the season.
Lorenzo Ferrari made one save as he picked up his fourth win of the season. Ferrari is now 4-0-2 on the year while allowing just two goals as the starter for Lander.
