Mount Olive, N.C. - The Lander Field Hockey team fell to the the Mount Olive Trojans on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 4-2. With the loss, the Bearcats fell to 1-3 on the season and in SAC play. The game marked the end of a four-game season opening road trip for the Bearcats.
Mount Olive came out on fire as they scored three goals in six minutes in the first quarter and outshot Lander 4-1 in the first 15 minutes of action.Â
However, from there the Bearcat defense would settle in and Lander would get a goal back in the second quarter from
Emma Allon, the first of her career, to cut the Trojan lead to 3-1 heading into the halftime break.
The third quarter would be more even as the shots were slightly in favor of Mount Olive, 3-2 but one of the shots from the Trojans would find the back of the cage to restore Mount Olive's three goal lead.
But Lander would not back down as they would dominate the fourth quarter with a 5-2 shot advantage including a goal from
Lauren Punt, her second of the season, to cut the lead back down to 4-2. However, despite a couple of good chances to cut the lead further, Lander couldn't find the back of the net and would fall by that 4-2 scoreline.
The Lander Field Hockey Team will host their first ever home game on Saturday as they will host the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters at Frank Hill Stadium at Emerald High School. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 PM.
