Lander Falls to #7 Converse in Overtime

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Lander Field Hockey Team took the number seven team in the country to overtime but the Converse Valkyries would prevail on a goal in the seventh minute.

Converse would outshoot the Bearcats 9-4 but Lander would have four penalty corners throughout the game. However, the Bearcats couldn't find the back of the cage.

After ending the 60 minutes of regulation in a deadlock, the Bearcats found themselves with a penalty corner in the third minute of overtime and Emma Allon would force a save. Unfortunately, an untimely turnover at midfield near the end of the seventh minute would result in the winner for the hosts.

Despite taking the loss, Kelsey Gibbons would record seven saves to keep Lander in the contest including stopping several Converse breakaways.

Emma Allon and Sophie Schmitz led the attack with two shots a piece, with each forcing a save by the Converse goalkeeper.

The Bearcats are back in action on Thursday as they travel up Highway 34 to take on the Newberry Wolves. That game is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM.
