Bearcats pick up two wins on final day of the PBC/SAC Crossover

HARROGATE, Tenn. - On the final day of the PBC/SAC Crossover, Lander came away with two 3-1 victories over Mars Hill and Lincoln Memorial. 

GAME ONE

The Bearcats took an early 6-1 lead, but Mars Hill slowly battled back to tie the set at 16. A kill by Maya Walker and a service ace from Maddie Moss would give Lander the lead again, 18-16. Later in the set, a Lion service error gave Lander a 24-22 lead, but Mars Hill scored three unanswered points to take a 25-24 lead. The teams traded points, and with the score tied at 28, the Bearcats got a kill by Katie Miller and a block by Annie Holesinger and McCayla Willingham to give Lander the 30-28 win. 

Lander scored seven of the first eight points in the second set and cruised to a 25-18 win. The Lions responded with a 25-15 win in the third set to make it a 2-1 match.  

Trailing Mars Hill 10-7 in the fourth set, a kill by Miller sparked a 5-0 run to give the Bearcats a 12-10 lead that they wouldn't relinquish as Lander took the 25-17 win to clinch the victory.

Miller led the Bearcats with 22 kills and 20 digs for her 13th double-double of the season. Madilyn Reed dished out a game-high 46 assists, with 14 digs and two service aces. Patricia Pantoja had 18 digs, while Annie Holesinger finished with seven blocks. 

GAME TWO

Host Lincoln Memorial held on to take the first set 25-23. Lander took an early 10-6 lead in the second set, but Lincoln Memorial would eventually tie the set up at 21. Lander regained the lead with back-to-back kills from Katie Miller and Christina Aguayo, and a kill by Aguayo gave Lander a 25-23 win to tie the match up. The Bearcats went on to outscore the Railsplitters 50-20 over the following two sets to take the win.

Madilyn Reed led Lander with her third-straight double-double with 49 assists and 11 digs. Katie Miller finished with 19 kills, while Christina Aguayo and Annie Holesinger had 16 and 11, respectively. Patricia Pantoja had a game-high 21 digs for Lander.
