Women's basketball returns to conference play Wednesday at USC Aiken

GREENWOOD, S.C. - The third-ranked Lander women's basketball team travels down Highway 25 tomorrow to take on USC Aiken at 5:30 PM in a Peach Belt matchup.

STORYLINES

  • During their seven-game winning streak, the Bearcats have averaged 87.3 points per game, with a 30.2 point margin of victory.    
  • On Saturday, the Bearcats had six players in double-figures in their 84-45 win over Newberry, led by Zamiya Passmore, who had a game-high 22 points with seven assists.
  • Makaila Cangé recorded her sixth double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down a game-high ten rebounds. Amiaya Melvins added 14 points, while Jakiyah Parker scored 12 points.  
  •  Sarah Crews scored 11 points and recorded a career-high seven steals, and Miriam Recarte added 10 points.  
  • Lander shot better than 50% for the second straight game, going 35-64 (54.7%).
  • Lander leads the Peach Belt and NCAA Division II in assists per game (19.2) and leads the PBC in assist-turnover ratio (1.17), blocked shots per game (4.3), field-goal percentage (47.7), and scoring offense (83.4). The Bearcats are also second in the PBC in scoring margin (23.1) and assists (192), blocked shots (43), and rebound margin (6.0).
  • Cange currently leads the PBC and is seventh in Division II in offensive rebounds per game (4.7), first in double-doubles (6), field-goal percentage (64.7), free-throws made (52), and points per game (20.9).  
  • Miriam Recarte leads the Peach Belt and is seventh in the country in blocked shots per game (2.8), and leads the conference and is 10th in blocked shots (28). Zamiya Passmore is second in the PBC in assists (58) and points per game (20.7)
  • The Bearcats are dominating down low, averaging 44.6 points in the paint through 10 games.
  • Last time out, USC Aiken defeated Kentucky State 70-40 on December 20th.
