Women's basketball returns to the court Saturday at Flagler

GREENWOOD, S.C. -   The fifth-ranked Lander women's basketball team will return to the court for the first time in a week as they travel to take on Flagler at 1:30 PM Saturday.

STORYLINES

  • Lander has not played since last Saturday.
  • In a battle of two 13-2 teams, the Bearcats defeated Georgia Southwestern 81-74 to improve the series record to 21-1.    
  • Lander had six different players score in double figures against the Hurricanes, including three different players who recorded double-doubles.
  • Senior Amiaya Melvins led the way with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Rideout finished with 15 points. Cangé added 14 points and 11 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season, and Recarte added 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Crews and Jester each added 11 points for Lander.
  • Lander leads the Peach Belt and NCAA Division II in assists per game (19.0). They are also leading the PBC and seventh in the country in field-goal percentage (47.0), first in the conference and third in the country in scoring offense (83.3) and second in the PBC, and sixth in scoring margin (21.4). The Bearcats lead the PBC in assist-turnover ratio (1.14). They are also second in assists (285), blocked shots per game (4.1), and rebound margin (6.4).
  • Cange currently leads the PBC and is second in the country in field-goal percentage (67.9), first in the conference, and third in Division II in offensive rebounds per game (4.9), first in the PBC in double-doubles (9), and free-throws made (77). She is also second in the conference in points per game (21.1).  
  • Miriam Recarte is second in the conference and is 8th in blocked shots per game (2.73) and second in the PBC in blocked shots(41).
  • Zamiya Passmore leads the PBC and ranks fourth in Division II (21.8).
  • The Bearcats have won five in a row against the Saints and own a 21-4 record in the series.
  • Last time out, Flagler lost to Clayton State 64-62 on Wednesday.
