GREENWOOD – The Lander men's soccer team earned a bounce-back win as they defeated Newberry to the tune of a 4-0 victory at Van Taylor Stadium.
Lander moves to 2-1-0 while Newberry drops to 0-3-0 overall.
The Bearcats shut down any chances Newberry had to compete, as the Blue and Gold limited the Wolves to zero shots on goal on six attempted shots. The Bearcats on the other hand put 10-of-21 shots on goal.
Lander scored three of its four goals on the night in the first half, with Tom Marriott ripping home his fourth of the season in the 13th minute to put Lander up 1-0. Max McNulty was next to join the party with a goal in the 23rd minute off an assist from Rasmus Andersson. Kevin Rubaszewski, who assisted on Marriott's goal, put away the third goal of the half off an assist from Harry Bircumshaw. Marco Gueli notched his first goal of the year on an assist from Max Bolton to cap off the Bearcats scoring for the night.
Simon Reithmeir earned his first shutout as a Bearcat after playing all 90 minutes in net against Newberry.
The Bearcats battle another South Atlantic Conference opponent in Anderson, with Lander traveling to face the Trojans on Saturday.
