Men's soccer hosts USC Aiken under the lights on Wednesday

GREENWOOD – After picking up a pair of wins last week, the Lander men's soccer team returns to Van Taylor Stadium to host USC Aiken for a PBC match on Wednesday.

 STORYLINES

  • The Bearcats are coming off a 2-0 week.
  • Lander first defeated North Georgia 3-2 in its PBC opener. They finished up the week with a 4-0 victory at Erskine.
  • Tom Marriott scored three goals and recorded one assist this past week.
  • He leads the Bearcats with eight goals and 18 points.
  • Not only leading the PBC in goals, Marriott is currently leading Div. II in goals scored and is second nationally in points.
  • Max McNulty, who has scored a goal in each of the last five matches is second on the team in goals scored with five and joins Marriott as the only Bearcats to record double figures in points.
  • McNulty is tied for third in the PBC for goals scored and is ranked 15th in the country.
  • Marco Gueli and Kevin Rubaszewski are tied for the team-high in assists with three. They both have five points on the season.
  • Simon Reithmeir has played and started all six games in goal for Lander. He's allowed 11 goals while making eight saves. He holds a 4-2-0 record along with two shutouts.
  • As a team, Lander has scored 17 goals while allowing 11 this season. They average 2.83 goals per game while allowing 1.83.
  • They are averaging above 50 percent for shots on goal, with 46-of-88 shots taken going on goal this season (52.3%).
  • Lander's 17 goals leads the PBC for most goals scored so far this season. Clayton State is close behind with 16.
  • The Bearcats also ranked second in the PBC for total assists with 15 this season.
  • USC Aiken comes in with a 1-4 overall record. The lone win for the Pacers came in the season opener with a 3-1 victory over Newberry.
  • The Pacers have been on a four-game losing streak since, with a 6-2 loss to Mars Hill and a 4-0 shutout to Clayton State among their losses. 
  • Aiken has been shut out in three of its four losses this season.
  • They recently lost to PBC foe Georgia Southwestern 1-0 at home.
  • Aiken has scored a total of five goals this season while allowing 13. They average one goal per game while allowing 2.60.
  • Aiken and Clayton State are tied for the most goals allowed among PBC schools. Aiken has the highest GAA in the PBC
  • Jaymee Kambel leads the Pacers in goals (3), is tied for the lead in assists (1) and leads the squad in points (7).
  • Joey Valenti has seen the majority of time in net for Aiken. He's played in five games while starting four. He's allowed nine goals while making 19 saves and is currently 1-2-0 on the season. 
  • The Bearcats hit the road again as they travel to take on No. 12 Young Harris on Saturday, September. 25.
