Women's soccer hosts Georgia Southwestern to begin conference play

GREENWOOD – After getting rained out at Coker, the Lander women's soccer team will host Georgia Southwestern to begin Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday.

STORYLINES

  • After waiting two hours in a weather delay, Lander was only able to get through a small portion of the first half against Coker before the game was called due to weather.
  • In its four games, the Bearcats are averaging a GAA per game below 1 with a .947.
  • This contest will feature two of the top-ranked scoring teams in the PBC. GSW is first with 13 goals scored this season while the Bearcats are tied for second with 10.
  • Although outscoring opponents 13-2 this season, the Hurricanes have had a lackluster schedule until this point. The four teams they've beaten have a combined 1-13-1 record, with one of them being a Div. III opponent. The Hurricanes only loss came in a 1-0 overtime defeat to Shorter.
  • Seven of the Hurricanes 13 goals came against Div. III Wesleyan
  • Zyandra Thomas leads the Hurricanes in goals (3) and points (7).
  • Grace O'Shaughnessy has played and started all five games. She's allowed two goals and has a GAA of 0.38. 
  • Maren White is tied for the second-most goals scored among PBC players. She also leads the Bearcats with those three goals.
  • Marry Mossbrugger is second on the team in goals and points. She has two goals and one assist.
  • Sarah Owen has played and started all four games. She's 2-1-1 on the season with a GAA of 1.03.
  • This will be the 16th meeting between the two sides. After losing the inaugural battle against the Hurricanes, Lander has rattled off 14-straight wins.
  • The Bearcats have another non-conference battle in store, as it takes on Limestone on September 22 next.
