Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer begins conference action with thrilling 3-2 win over North Georgia

Dahlonega, Ga. – The Lander men's soccer team began Peach Belt Conference action with a thrilling win over North Georgia on road on a rainy Wednesday.

Lander moves to 3-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the PBC while North Georgia drops to 3-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the PBC.

With the win, the Bearcats have now gone 9-0-2 against North Georgia since losing 3-0 on October 22, 2011.

The Bearcats got on the scoreboard first. In the 35th minute of action, Tom Marriott curled a corner kick into the box, only for it to get headed by a North Georgia player into their own net.

The first frame would see more fireworks, as the Nighthawks came back screaming. In about a minute and a half of action, North Georgia would go from down 1-0 to up 2-1 with goals coming late in the 35th minute and to begin the 37th minute of play.

Marriott would be featured yet again, as he tucked away his sixth goal of the season off an assist from Harry Bircumshaw to draw the Bearcats even 2-2 in the 41st minute of action.

Lander took eight in the first half compared to the three from the Nighthawks.

Neither side was able to produce the same offensive output in the second half, as it wasn't until a free-kick from Marriott in the 69th minute of play that Lander was able to break through. Taking a free kick on the left side of the field, Marriott fired in a high cross that found the head of Max McNulty to make it a 3-2 game. McNulty, who scored his fourth goal of the season, is second on the team in goals behind Marriott's six.

Lander concludes its non-conference slate of games with a trip to Erskine on Saturday, September 18.
