GREENWOOD – The 2021 season begins for the Lander women's soccer with a trip to North Greenville on Thursday and a visit from West Georgia on Saturday.

STORYLINES
- The Bearcats are looking to rebound off a 3-6-1 2020 campaign. Although going 1-3-1 in their last five games, the Bearcats shut out USC Aiken to conclude the season and all three losses came in one-goal games.
- Gracie Beeson and Kelcie Fisher led the Bearcats last season with three goals and six points each.
- Sarah Owen saw the majority of action in net last season for Lander, as she made and started in eight games.
- In the 14 games played between Lander and North Greenville, Lander is 13-1. The lone loss came in the first game played between the two teams back in 1998, a 1-0 win for NGU.
- The Crusaders went 8-2-1 last season, starting the season on a 3-0-1 record that saw three consecutive shutouts.
- NGU's two losses came in one-goal games, the first a 3-2 loss in the regular season to Barton and the second a 1-0 defeat to Mount Olive in the Conference Carolinas Tournament finals.
- The Crusaders were led by Faith Knoedler's 10 goals and 22 points last season. She was the only player for NGU to have more than four goals.
- Maggie Schopp led the effort in net for NGU, as she played and started in 10 games. She allowed just six goals while holding a .59 GAA, a 7-2-1 record and five solo shutouts.
- This will be the first time Lander and West Georgia will meet for women's soccer.
- The Wolves went 3-4 in the Gulf South Conference last season where they eventually fell to Alabama Huntsville 5-3 in the GSC Tournament.
- Jazmine Santiago led UWG in goals and points with five goals and 12 points last season. Cassidi Thomas was second on the team in points with nine due to her team-high five assists.
- UWG had a tandem of keepers last season, with Haley Brinkman playing and starting three games and Chanceley Book playing and starting four games.
- The Bearcats are back in action on September 8 to host Southern Wesleyan next.
