Box Score 2 GREENWOOD – The Lander softball team fell to Columbus State, 2-0 and 7-0, on Senior Day at Doug Spears Field.
Liz Gollin (5-8) tied a season-high with 10 strikeouts in game one while scattering five Cougar hits in a complete-game effort. However, Columbus State took the lead on a solo home run in the fourth inning and added another on a wild pitch in the fifth.
Gollin struck out six in relief in game two while allowing just two hits in 3.2 innings of work, but a five-run Columbus State fifth-inning broke a scoreless tie. The losses marked just the second and third times the Bearcats have been shut out all year. Shannon Antonini tallied a hit in both contests.
Lander travels to UNC Pembroke on Friday for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
