Box Score 2 DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Lander softball team took a 1-1 tie into the fifth inning against No. 3 North Georgia before falling to the Nighthawks, 2-1, in game one on Tuesday afternoon. North Georgia won game two 6-0 to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Lander trailed 1-0 in the top of the fourth when Delaney Guerrero's one-out single put the tying run aboard. Two batters later, Barbara Cook doubled down the left-field line to plate Guerrero and knot the score. However, a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth for North Georgia would the game's final run as the Nighthawks hung on for a 2-1 victory.
Liz Gollin (5-7) allowed two runs on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 4.0 innings of work for the Bearcats.
The Bearcat mustered just one hit in game two as UNG used a three-run fifth inning to put the game out of reach. Cook gave up two earned runs in 4.0 innings on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Lander hosts Georgia Southwestern Friday at 5:00 p.m. in a PBC doubleheader.
