Box Score 2 GREENWOOD – The Lander softball team scored 11 runs in the first four innings of its second game against Augusta on Sunday, earning a split with the Jaguars at Doug Spears Field. Augusta won the first game, 6-2, before the Bearcats responded with an 11-1 victory in five innings.
Lander took the first lead of the day in the bottom of the second in game one as Jillian Terpenning's sacrifice fly made the score 1-0 Bearcats. Augusta countered with a two-run homer in the third before another sac fly, this time from Delaney Guerrero, tied the game at 2-2. The Jaguars broke the game open with three solo homers in the top of the fourth and never looked back en route to a 6-2 win.
Liz Gollin (5-6) suffered the loss for Lander, going 3.1 innings and allowing four runs on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
In game two, Terpenning opened the scoring once more as she homered in the bottom of the first. Barbara Cook scored on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the second and Logan Coward followed with a two-run single. Terpenning then scored on a throwing error to give Lander a 5-0 cushion. Morgan Watson hammered a two-run homer in the bottom of the third and Alana Frye belted a solo shot before Guerrero capped the inning with an RBI single to increase the Bearcat lead to 9-0. Frye drove home two more with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth.
Augusta managed just one run off Olivia Veidt (2-0), who limited the Jaguars to five hits in 4.1 innings with two strikeouts.
Lander travels to No. 3 North Georgia on Tuesday afternoon.
